Strengthening the early care and education workforce is essential if we are to ensure that all young children enter school with the social, emotional, and intellectual foundation they need to be successful. The Institute of Medicine has issued a report, Transforming the Workforce for Children Birth through Age 8: A Unifying Foundation, suggesting that the science of child development should be used to inform the professional training and practices of adults caring for young children.
